When you first start planning your big day you will need to look for one that’s special to your as a couple. In today’s blog post we look at what to think about when choosing the date.

First think about the kind of wedding you would like as this will help narrow down the dates that you can pick from. You may want a summer themed wedding with lots of bright colors and flowers or you may want a Christmas wedding with berries and holly. Another way of couples choosing their day is by getting married on a day that is special to them. This may be the date they meet, the anniversary of the date they got in engaged or maybe another memorable date within their relationship.

Saturday is the most popular day to get married although Friday and Sunday are popular also.  If you do choose to get married on a  week day be sure to give your guests plenty of notice as they will need to take time of work. An advantage of getting married on a week day or Sunday is that suppliers and venues will usually charge you less and therefore help to keep the costs down as these days are not as popular to get married.

Try and have a couple of other dates just in case the date that you want is taken.  If you have your heart set on a venue you may have to be flexible and work around their availablity.

Once you have got a date in mind look for any events that might be occuring on that weekend. This may effect prices of local hotels where guests might want to stay, there may be road closures making getting to the venue difficult. Ask the venue when you enquire about the date that you have in mind.

Don’t let this stress you out and have fun choosing – now go get that diary out and find your perfect date!!!

Just for a bit of fun, if you’re still undecided on the month then maybe this verse will help you….

Married when the year is new, he’ll be loving, kind & true.
When February birds do mate, You wed nor dread your fate.
If you wed when March winds blow, joy and sorrow both you’ll know.
Marry in April when you can, Joy for Maiden & for Man.
Marry in the month of May, and you’ll surely rue the day.
Marry when June roses grow, over land and sea you’ll go.
Those who in July do wed, must labor for their daily bred.
Whoever wed in August be, many a change is sure to see
Marry in September’s shrine, your living will be rich and fine.
If in October you do marry, love will come but riches tarry.
If you wed in bleak November, only joys will come, remember.
When December snows fall fast, marry and true love will last.
