Friday I ♥ – Nancy Hooded Zip Up Onesie from Boohoo

Posted by Emma ♥ - April 27th, 2012

Nancy Hooded Zip Up Onesie – Boohoo.com

At risk of getting absolutely slaughtered by all you lovely readers, I’m gonna put this out there – I ♥ Onesies!!

What’s not to love about them really eh? I’m not saying I’d actually leave the house in one BUT they are a perfect alternative to lounging in your PJ’s all day – which when you work from home can be VERY tempting!!

The Nancy Hooded Zip Up Onesie from Boohoo also comes in pink, coral and grey and at a very reasonable £25 it would seem rude for me not to just try one out! My Mum will love it if I rock up with one of these next time I visit – it’ll be worth the money just to see the look on her face!

Much love,

Emma xXx

Supplier Spotlight – Bish Bosh Becca

Posted by Emma ♥ - April 25th, 2012

Company Name:  Bish Bosh Becca

What inspired you to start your business?

I started over 6 years ago. My Mother had a lot of her jewellery stolen and I knew I could not replace it. I saw in a craft magazine a cheap crochet bracelet with plastic beads aimed at children. I thought I could make it in gold plated wire with the stone used in her favourite bracelet that was stolen. She loved it.

Then my husband made the mistake of going overseas for 6 months and he came home to a house full of beads. So Bish Bosh Becca was born!

Cassio

What do you enjoy most about your job?

There are so many things I love about my job. Perhaps the biggest is I just don’t see it as a job.

It sounds a bit daft but all the wonderful people I meet in this industry either other professionals or customers.

I also love creating. I might see colours put together and think that would make a superb necklace, so I have a play and create it. I used to worry that  would not be inspired to create new designs but something always came to me or caught my eye, but not always at the most convenient time! I have learnt to go with the flow and not to worry about it. More often then not I can’t make the new designs quick enough as several come to me at once

Friendship Bracelets

What has been the best moment of your business?

Making the decision to do Bish Bosh Becca full time and give up the day job.

Adriana Pearl Earings

What are your business plans for the future?

I would like to see it grow but still maintain the level of service that I provide now. I have just created a very affordable range of jewellery that I hope will help brides afford lovely wedding jewellery for all their bridesmaids as well as themselves. Prices start as £16 for a sterling silver and swarovski pearl and crystal necklace which I am quite proud of.

I need to be more PR aware or at least find someone who is!

Pearl Pendant

Can you give us a ‘Typical day in the life of Bish Bosh Becca’?

I don’t really have a typical day and that’s what I love, the variety. However most times there is just not enough time in the day.

The priority is dispatching orders and that always comes first.

I am juggling creating new designs, making them, getting them to the photographer and then uploading them on the site and promoting them.

Raising awareness of Bish Bosh Becca through social media but I have to be careful as I can waste hours on pinterest. I need to get to grips with creating fashion plates to put on there which give people ideas of what goes with what.

Then there is the dreaded meta data for the site.

I am very lucky I have a fantastic photographer and web designer

Don’t forget – You get a 10% on all orders with Bish Bosh Becca when you quote Military10!!

Military Monday – RAF Brize Wives

Posted by Emma ♥ - April 23rd, 2012

Afternoon peeps! Hope you all had a lovely weekend – shame the weather wasn’t good to us but keeping my fingers crossed for a bit of sunshine towards the end of the week (ever the optimist!).

I’ve really been looking forward to launching the ‘Military Monday’ posts as I see so many great causes/events being promoted on Twitter daily but was finding it hard to think of where I could feature them on the site. I also love the fact that a large number of these companies/charities are from fellow military wives too who just want to do their bit. I’m a huge supporter of these as I know how ‘useless’ we can feel at times and although it goes without saying how proud we are of our husbands, it really is lovely to do something that makes them proud of us too while helping a great cause at the same time!

Thanks to the lovely Ally from My Little Wrapper Chocolate Bars, (check out her fab offer here!) I have nabbed us a cracker to start with – Take it away Brizes Wives….

We are a group of  RAF wives based at RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire and we are embarking on a challenge to cycle the 5661km from RAF Brize Norton to Camp Bastion, Afghanistan in 24 hours on 17May 2012.  This is taking place in the gym at RAF Brize Norton.

As part of our fundraising we are also compiling a cookbook, and we are aiming to have this ready for Christmas.  The Prime Minister, David Cameron, has donated us a family recipe for the book, along with other celebrities.

We wanted to do something to show our support to our husbands, who serve our country every day and risk their lives doing their job, in various hostile environments around the world.  We also wanted to raise money for some of the charities that do such an amazing job supporting us and our families whenever we need help or support.  Our chosen charities are SSAFA Forces Help, The Royal British Legion and The RAF Benevolent Fund.

We would like to thank Shirtlab, Oxford for kindly producing T-shirts for us, and to the Co-op in Carterton for allowing us space to do a collection and to Fraser Retail and Aldi for providing us with water during the cycle.

For more information you can email: brize_wives@hotmail.co.uk

You can follow us on Twitter @RAFBrizeWives
or donate at www.virginmoneygiving.com/team/RAFBrizeWives

We also have a website http://rafbrizewives.webs.com where we will be selling the cook book.

What an amazing challenge they’ve set themselves here and I wish them all the very best and don’t forget, if you would like to sponsor these ladies then you can do so by clicking here.

Make sure you send us some pictures from the day so we can get an update on how you got on!

Much love,

Emma xXx

P.S – If you have a military related company/product that you would like to promote on Military Monday, please feel free to email me at emma@militaryweddingdiscounts.com

Very Inviting! – Scroll Invitation from Paper Passion Design

Posted by Emma ♥ - April 19th, 2012

Scroll Invitation – Paper Passion Design

How cute are these!

I had scrolls for my Order of Service and was initially worried that the guests might have trouble using them due to the paper curling up but this wasn’t an issue at all – in fact they all loved that they were a little bit different and many still have them at home as keepsakes.

This invitation is from the Daisy & Diamonds Collection

Beautiful and girly – but the big surprise is even the men love this design.
Each daisy has a tiny diamond centre which sparkle from all angles.

The scrolls are priced at £5.85 each and include a postal tube.

See here for full contact details.

Single cap sleeve

Sweetheart neckline

Sparkly waist detailing

Swoooooooooooon! How gorgeous is this gown!

It actually reminds me slightly of the infamous bridesmaid dress Pippa Middleton wore last year – such a beautiful fit and I love the puddle train too.

Supplier Spotlight – Port Out Starboard Home (P-O-S-H)

Posted by Emma ♥ - April 18th, 2012

Company Name:

Port Out Starboard Home (P- O-S-H)

What inspired you to start your business?

Our business was officially launched in September 2011.

We were inspired to launch Port Out Starboard Home (P-O-S-H) after Georgie’s wedding in 2008. We had an idea of the special hair accessories we wanted for that occasion, but found that the choice was very limited. Georgie decided to design and make her own headband from items in granny’s jewellery box.

The headband was a huge success and the business idea was born! We started in a very small way as we both had full time jobs, but when Jill took early retirement in July 2011, it seemed an ideal opportunity to launch our business. P-O-S-H has blossomed from there and we have been busy making special items for weddings, balls, proms and other occasions ever since.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

We enjoy all aspects of our job which starts with bringing new life to tired vintage jewellery by designing and creating something unique and extra especial. We particularly love working with our clients to create bespoke pieces which are exactly what they are looking for.

What has been the best moment of your business?

It has been a wonderful six months with so many special moments! One of our favourite occasions was having the opportunity to take part in the photo Shoot with Nicola Thomas from Find a Dress and Colin Crowdey from LCC photography to produce wonderful photos of our accessories on the lovely models, Helen Drew and Emily Cooper. Hair was styled by Alice Jeffrey and makeup  Zsike Peters.

Just a few of the pictures featuring our work are shown here.

Another occasion was when one of our headdresses was used in a popular TV series and is due to be aired in the next couple of weeks; we can’t wait to share details with everyone! – It was only The blooming Apprentice – how exciting!!! Take a look at some of the images from P-O-S-H Facebook page

What are your business plans for the future?

We plan to continue to add new items to our collection as well as working on our bespoke orders. We are working on a number of designs at the moment which feature more fabric enhanced with pearls and crystals.

Can you give us a ‘Typical day in the life of….’?

Every day is different for us, but most days start with a couple of hour’s admin which may include   updating our Facebook page and website or maybe carrying out research for a new client or item for the collection. We then spend time working on bespoke orders or our designs, the day may also include meeting clients or packing up items to be posted.  Every day is very busy and full and that is what we like about life at Port Out Starboard Home HQ!

20% off all items in our collection or bespoke orders when you quote MW11

Engagement Shoot – Alex & Natalie Nelson Photography

Posted by Emma ♥ - April 17th, 2012

This is my first Engagement shoot that I’m featuring and what a super cute couple I’ve got to start with!! I was so excited when Natalie from Alex & Natalie Nelson Photography sent over Katie & Kevin’s (who is enlisted in the US Navy) photo’s that I jumped at the chance to share these with you, so let me hand over to the gorgeous couple themselves to tell you all about how they met and the lovely romantic proposal….

What are your favorite ‘together’ activities?
We like to watch movies and we’re avid football fans (complete with a heated Packers/Lions home rivalry). We also enjoy going out to eat and seeing who can stand the spiciest hot wings.
Where was your first date? What did you do?
Our first date was when we still lived in Hawaii. Kevin picked me up at a Starbucks in Honolulu in his prized possession – his Corvette (now departed, sadly) – and we drove up to the North Shore where we stopped off to see sea turtles before getting pizza. We watched the sunset behind surfers at the Turtle Bay Resort, and Kevin drove me home with the top down and Elvis Costello on the iPod.
Briefly describe your wedding theme.
We’re trying for 1940s Hawaii. The easiest reference point for most people is the movie Pearl Harbor, but it seemed like a good way for us to combine the aviation theme at the EAA with our love of Hawaii. I spent my time in Hawaii working with WWII materials at the University of Hawaii, and I try to keep a lot of those materials in mind for inspiration: See here
What is the most important thing detail you want to remember from your wedding?
Just that we had fun and were deliriously happy.
How did you meet?
Online
How did the proposal occur?

Kevin had to go to Madison for a weekend for work, and he asked me to fly up and spend the weekend with him. (He knows I love Madison; I went to grad school at UW.) On Saturday, we walked around the campus area, and Kevin showed above-average interest in a lot of the places I used to spend time as a student there. (I found out after the fact that he had asked my mother for proposal location suggestions since he didn’t know Madison well. He was using our walk to check on his options.) That evening, we went to the Union for a beer by the lake. Lost in my fond memories, I did not notice Kevin acting nervous, although he said he was obviously acting weird. After our drinks, he suggested we take a walk by the water – another out-of-character suggestion that I should have picked up on (but didn’t!). We strolled to a look out point, and when I turned away from the water to continue our walk, Kevin was down on one knee. I was so surprised! He claims it didn’t go as planned – the Union was too crowded, the view wasn’t unobstructed – but to me it was perfect. To celebrate, we went to Quaker Steak & Lube for hot wings.

Aren’t they just gorgeous!! Wishing you both all the happiness in the world (and don’t forget to send us the wedding pics!)

Huge thanks once again to the lovely Alex & Natalie Nelson Photography for sending this Engagement shoot in!

Much love,

Emma xXx

Military Monday

Posted by Emma ♥ - April 17th, 2012

I’m going to use today’s post to briefly fill you in on the past few weeks (and what a few weeks they’ve been!) and then also to tell you all about the new regular feature – Military Monday!

I would be fibbing if I said that the last 6 weeks had been easy. Trying very hard to deal with changes of the hubby being away didn’t come quite as easily as I had expected (more about this in my ‘Military Musings’ post coming up on Friday). Add to this a nasty dose of Glandular Fever and a trip to hospital last week it has been a bit of a funny time  BUT the good news is I’m feeling MUCH MUCH better and normality is to resume at MWD and I can’t wait!

Military Monday is a new regular post which will start next week. Every Monday morning we will be featuring companies aimed at helping military members be it through products they sell or services they offer. We want to ensure that military families both here in the UK and USA are aware of as many of these companies/charities as possible.

If you are a company/charity aimed at helping military members or if you offer a product or service which benefits a military charity and would like to feature on the site then please get in touch – emma@militaryweddingdiscounts.com – we’d love to hear from you!

Also, as of next week, the ‘Musings of a Military Wife’ posts will be moved to a Monday afternoon too!

So, that’s a teeny update from me along with a HUGE apology for the lack of posts but normal service resumes today. Thank you to everyone for their patience and their well wishes too – I really do appreciate it so much.

Much love,

Emma xXx
