Wednesday’s Wedding Fave – Poppy Sparkle’s Poppies!

Posted by Emma ♥ - November 2nd, 2011

It seems to have come around very quickly this week but it’s here again already, it’s…………..WEDNESDAY’S WEDDING FAVES!

I seriously don’t think you realise how much this excites me! I spend half the week making notes of my favourite finds, choosing ‘the one’  and contacting the lovely supplier for all the relevent information and then I spend the rest of the week getting all excited about sharing it with you and as always I have got a real treat for you this week from the lovely Viv at Poppy Sparkles!….

We Will Remember Them – Handmade Poppies by Poppy Sparkles

Poppy Sparkles, more usually associated with handmade jewellery, has created a Poppy Corsage for those wishing to mark Remembrance Day with a more unique poppy. Each poppy is hand sewn by Viv Smith, the owner of Poppy Sparkles, using lashings of red grosgrain ribbon and a large black button centre, finished with a brooch fastening to the back.

“I wanted to create a poppy that was more substantial than the paper ones as I always end up damaging them really quickly. I also wanted to offer something a little more unique. It was important that I didn’t take any valuable fundraising away, so £1 from each poppy is donated to The British Legion. I set up a JustGiving page allowing people to see that their poppy purchase was contributing to charity funds.”

Poppies can be purchased from the Poppy Sparkles Website.

You can track Viv’s fundraising efforts on her JustGiving page.

I buy my Poppy each year without fail but can guarantee I loose it within a day or two. I never begrudge the money I spend on them (and often end up buying 4/5 each year) but I do wish I could keep hold of them longer purely so I am able to show my support. As soon as I seen these I knew this was the solution I needed and have just ordered 3 (treated my Mum and Nan to one too!).

The direct link to the poppies can be found here.

Can’t wait to get it and wear it on my coat with pride!

Muchos love,

Wednesday’s Wedding Faves – Rice Butterflies

Posted by Emma ♥ - October 12th, 2011

It’s that time of the week again which gets me all excited as I can share with you some of my favourite finds in this wonderful industry and as usual I have a real treat for you!! Let me introduce you to this brilliant new alternative to confetti – Rice Butterfiles

A modern bride’s alternative to confetti: gorgeous Rice Butterflies now available in the UK

It’s the little things that make a wedding memorable and the latest hot trend for modern brides is not only little, it’s light, delicate, sophisticated and symbolic.

Rice Butterflies are now available in the UK as an alternative to confetti and the sole distributor is http://www.ricebutterflies.co.uk/.

While bubbles are impractical in unpredictable British weather, and boxes of confetti have been seen a thousand times before, Rice Butterflies are beautifully packaged and eco-friendly. Made from rice paper, rice grain and rice glue only, they are bio-degradable and available in five colours (natural/white,  red, blue, green and yellow), with approx 125 butterflies per pack.

If you want a reaction from your guests, or are a photographer looking for a talking point to get guests animated, these delicate Rice Butterflies soar for up to eight seconds while cameras capture the magic. Children will be captivated and give your pictures the wow-factor. Flutter-by fabulous!

Brides can buy online or if they prefer an on-line form at http://www.ricebutterflies.co.uk/free-rb.php can be completed by the couple which will send out a message to all of their wedding guests alerting guests that the couple would like to be showered by the beautiful Rice Butterflies allowing guests to buy this product as a treat for the couple!

The paper is all-weather safe so colours won’t run near that gorgeous dress.

The classy packaging fits with many themes, from vintage to contemporary, or for weddings with a butterfly motif, of course.

Beyond the visual aspects, butterflies are also hugely symbolic, too. In many cultures, they are a symbol of transformation and celebration, perfect for marking a marriage.

In Greek mythology, Psyche (translating to mean “soul”) is represented in the form of a butterfly. Psyche shares an enduring bond with Eros, the Greek god of love, who is also known in Roman myth as Cupid.

Rice is also symbolic, used at European weddings as a symbol of celebration. “Rice is often used because it is symbolic of plentiful crops, which leads to thoughts of prosperity and fertility,” said Greek anthropologist Alkippe Aidonopoulou. “Rice Butterflies, being a 100% rice product, are following the same tradition.”

How amazing is that! It looks so pretty and I really love the meaning behind it too – what more could you hope to be blessed with on your big day.

It gets better though peeps! For the next month the lovely guys at Rice Butterflies are offering a 10% military discount on all orders placed via their hotline – 07891781428. You could be one of the first in the UK to have this at your wedding!

You’d be mad not to!

Wednesday’s Wedding Faves – More Than Words

Posted by Emma ♥ - September 28th, 2011

It’s that time of the week again which gets me all excited as I can share with you some of my favourite finds in this wonderful industry and again I have a real treat for you!!

This week we are very lucky to feature the fabulous Lisa Long of More Than Words. I spend HOURS just drooling over the Gallery on Lisa’s website and I’m currently trying to decide which one to buy a certain someone (won’t mention who incase they read this!!) for Christmas!

It’s such a beautiful keepsake that would make a great gift for anyone getting married OR something to buy yourself with any money you get as wedding gifts. Whenever we are faced with buying a wedding present we always try to think of something that the bride and groom won’t have and something that will last a long time too (which can be a VERY difficult task!) – a bespoke piece from the More Than Words collection would ensure your gift stands out from the crowd and you would have no fear of needing to leave the receipt incase of duplication!

So how does an idea like this come about?

More Than Words was launched in 2010 by creative designer Lisa Long, after taking time out of a busy career to raise her two young children. Lisa’s lifetime love of interiors, graphic design and typography, combined with a search to find a piece of original artwork for her own home, led her to follow her creative passion.

“I was struggling to find artwork that had it all – contemporary, premium quality yet reasonably priced, a great talking point and something that was unique and meaningful. So, after careful research to understand how I could produce my very own piece of high quality artwork, I created what is now the original ‘Memories Canvas’ to hang on our wall. A simple collection of our favourite memories as a piece of ‘word art’ on a stunning canvas and in custom colours to match the room.” Lisa then had several requests from friends and family to design something for them and from there More Than Words was born.

In just over a year, Lisa’s artwork is an award-winning global brand, commissioned by customers across Europe, America, Africa and Australia. High profile clients include Dannii Minogue, screenwriter and film director Richard Curtis and TV executive Donna Taberer, and More Than Words artwork decorates the walls of well-known corporate clients such as the headquarters of Wedding Ideas magazine, the UK’s leading ‘bride’s bible’.

It gets better still guys – Lisa is very kindly offering a 10% discount to all readers until the 31st October when you quote MWD10!

You’d be mad to miss out!

Wednesday’s Wedding Faves – The Original Wedding Tea Towel!

Posted by Emma ♥ - September 21st, 2011

Wednesday is fast becoming my favourite day of the week due to all these goodies I get to share with you!

This week I have another real treat for you! They say you should choose your invitations very carefully as these are the first clue your guests will have to the theme your day is taking. I thought I was giving my guests a real treat when I provided them with maps and details of local hotels (this was 5 years ago lol!) but how do you think they would feel if one of these landed on their doorstep! The lovely Karen from the Original Wedding Tea Towel explains how the idea came about and a little more about the product too….

So, we decided to get married at the end of 2009, and we wanted something special for our invitation…

Something different to create a buzz about the wedding, cheaper than standard paper options, good for the environment and something our guests could keep for ever, and that’s how we came up with the idea for the Original Wedding Tea Towel.

When we’d finished the design and sent them out the response was so incredible that we knew we couldn’t keep the idea to ourselves and so the Original Wedding Tea Towel was born.

So, how is this good for the environment?
Think about it, instead of spending money on invites that people eventually throw away, spend less money on something they can actually use, and keep forever.

Your Guests will never forget your anniversary
With the Tea Towel hanging around kitchens for years to come guests have no excuse for forgetting your wedding anniversary.

Create a buzz
Expect the response to be epic, everyone is going to have an opinion on your invite and they can’t wait to get in touch to tell you, this makes your RSVP’s so much easier.

For more information, a sample or a quote then please email karen@weddingteatowels.co.uk or visit our website www.weddingteatowels.co.uk

Oh and it doesn’t stop there! The Original Wedding Tea Towel are offering FREE postage to Military members when you quote Military Wedding Discounts.

Could you imagine the guests delight at receiving one of these! We all want our wedding to stand out and be remembered and these invitations would certainly be a great place to start!

Wednesday’s Wedding Faves – The Wedding Chicks Favour Bags

Posted by Emma ♥ - September 14th, 2011

It’s that time of the week again where I get to showcase one my favourite supplier/products! Last weeks post featuring The Wedding Reporter was our most popular post to date (the stats went mad!!) so a big thank you once again to Emma for contributing and also for the very generous discount she is offering to0 – check it out here if you haven’t already!

I found this weeks Wedding Faves on none other than one of my favourite American wedding blogs – The Wedding Chicks

When I got married back in 2006 I found choosing what to give as favours a really REALLY daunting task. There were so many options but I knew I didn’t want to go down the traditional route of sugared almonds and I didn’t have the budget for anything too lavish so in the end I went with Lottery Tickets and put them in pink envelopes to match the colour theme – these little touches even got a mention in my Dads speech lol!

Now, had I seen these when I was getting married I would have saved myself a lot of bother!!…

1. Block Love Favour Bag – Pack of 10 for $35

2. Love and Laughter Bag – Pack of 10 for $35

3. Calendar Favour Bag – Pack of 10 for $35

4. Thank You Favour Bag – Pack of 10 for $35

5. Happily Ever After Bag – Pack of 10 for $35

I would never have had to worry about what to put inside them as they are just so pretty on their own!! If I was given an empty one as a favour I would have been more than happy as they are just gorgeous! They are quite expensive (working out at $3.50 per bag) so if you’re having a big wedding this could work out very costly BUT soooooo worth it. A few sweeties would fill them out at very little extra cost and the mulitple uses for these bags after would mean that people had a lovely keepsake of your big day for years to come!

If you’re getting married and using these and happen to have one spare that you just don’t know what to do with – Fear not!! Send it my way and I promise I will treasure it!

Muchos Love,

Wednesday’s Wedding Faves – The Wedding Reporter

Posted by Emma ♥ - September 7th, 2011

Our ‘Wednesday’s Wedding Faves’ posts are all about us showcasing the products & suppliers we love in the wedding industry and boy do I have a treat for you this week!

Emma Woodhouse (otherwise known as @Cloggins for those of us who follow Emma on Twitter) has used her amazing literary talents to create a unique concept providing couples with a special keepsake of their big day. I LOVE reading Emma’s example wedding reports – it actually makes me feel like I am right there. The detail is just amazing!

I wish The Wedding Reporter was available when I was getting married as this is something I would definitely have invested in. You could pick up your book in years to come and be taken right back to your special day to re-live every moment – That’s priceless!

Here’s a little more about The Wedding Reporter

The Wedding Reporter is a brand new bespoke wedding service offering discerning brides and grooms the opportunity to have a literary legacy of their wedding as an additional keepsake of their memories.

Launched in March 2011 by Emma Woodhouse, The Wedding Reporter evolved from a combined love of writing and a passion for all things matrimonial. After an unprecedented wave of support from the online wedding community about the initial concept, it appeared that the market was ready for someone to go to the wedding frontline and put pen to paper.

In a world now saturated with images, a wedding report offers the chance to step back from the aesthetic of your wedding day and focus on the action, the atmosphere and the moments you might otherwise forget in due course. A wedding report is an extra layer of texture to the memories of a wedding day.

With a background in fiction and playwriting and training under the National Council for the Training of Journalists, Emma brings a unique style of writing to the transcription of your wedding.

(The beautiful books are created by the lovely talented Leah Spicer of Golden Apple Designs – the lady we have to thank for our gorgeous site & Logo!!)

Whatʼs in it for the clients?
After an initial consultation, The Wedding Reporter will attend whichever elements of the day that the couple chooses for up to 12 hours of coverage. Having absorbed the day firsthand, The Wedding Reporter will then submit the first draft of the report for approval. Following any amendments, the clients will then have full ownership over the final electronic report. They can choose to have the report published in a bespoke booklet professionally created by Golden Apple Designs.

Whatʼs in it for The Wedding Reporter?
Getting to attend your wedding and document the beauty of your day is of paramount importance. Having established that this is not just a hangover from her own wedding, Emma is passionate about focusing her years of writing experience on chronicling one of the most important days of your life.

Based in the South West, The Wedding Reporter will scour the country to document even the most intimate of affairs on behalf of brides and grooms. Reports are entirely flexible and can cover just certain elements of the wedding or a fuller more descriptive account of the day.

For more information, please visit us online at www.theweddingreporter.co.uk

Emma is very kindly offering readers of Military Wedding Discounts a 20% discount on her services. Please quote ‘Military Wedding Discounts’ when enquiring to take advantage of this offer.

You would be mad not to!!!
