Thursday’s Film & TV Treats – 27 Dresses

Posted by Emma ♥ - December 8th, 2011

Always Always Always a Bridesmaid was a pretty fitting headline for poor Jane in 27 Dresses!

Two things about Jane: she never says no to her friends (she’s been a bridesmaid 27 times and selflessly plans friends’ weddings), and she’s in love with her boss, George, nurturing dreams of a lovely, romantic wedding of her own. She meets Kevin, a cynical writer who finds her attractive, and that same week her flirtatious younger sister Tess comes to town. Jane silently watches George fall for Tess, a manipulative pretender. Worse, Jane may be called upon to plan their wedding. Meanwhile, Kevin tries to get Jane’s attention and has an idea that may advance his career. Can Jane uncork her feelings?Source

I ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ this film!!! Perfect viewing for a night in with the girls (or husband in my case but please don’t tell him I told you he likes a chick flick!) – feel good, funny and all about weddings – the perfect ingredients for night full of giggles…

For those of you who haven’t seen it yet – where have you been??? Grab yourself a copy ASAP!! I promise you will LOVE it!

Thursday’s Film & TV Treats – Monster-in Law

Posted by Emma ♥ - December 1st, 2011

This was always one of my biggest fears I had whenever I thought about meeting my future husband – what would happen if I didn’t like my in-laws??

Having seen how amazingly well both my sets of Grandparents got on (it’s just one big family!), made it even more important to me as I wanted just the same and I’m very pleased to say I got just that!

My mother in law is an amazing woman and I love her to pieces and really couldn’t have wished for anyone better! Again, our two families have just joined (which makes an EXTREMELY long Christmas card list!!) and my parents love her too! Sadly I never got to meet my father in law but I know he was an amazing man as from what I’ve heard, my husband is a carbon copy!

Sadly it’s not the case for everyone as this film shows….

After years of looking for Mr. Right, Charlotte ‘Charlie’ Cantilini finally finds the man of her dreams, Kevin Fields, only to discover that his mother, Viola, is the woman of her nightmares. A recently fired news anchor who is afraid she will lose her son the way she has just lost her career, Viola determines to scare off her son’s new fiancé by becoming the world’s worst mother-in-law. While Viola’s long-time assistant Ruby does her best to help Viola execute her crazy schemes, Charlie decides to fight back and the gloves come off as the two women battle it out to see just who is the alpha-femaleSource

Would love to hear all about your in-law stories!! If you weren’t as lucky as myself, how do you work around things? Any advice for anyone else in the same position?

Thursday’s Film & TV Treats! – The Hangover

Posted by Emma ♥ - November 17th, 2011

Do you remember a few weeks ago when I was telling you about the film that made me laugh so much at the cinema that I was left with a stitch in my side for TWO days!! Well……. this is it! It’s The Hangover!!

What a film eh! I’ve never heard anyone speak a bad word about it – it really is that good! I so want my own Wolf Pack!

One thing I don’t miss about my ‘younger’ days are the hangovers leaving me with a temporary memory loss from the night before and then that feeling you get as the day goes by when it all starts gradually coming back and you just want to die of embarrassment at the thought of you (well me!) falling over or just generally making a fool of myself (my friend Smirnoff has ALOT to answer for!!) BUT waking to find a tiger in your room – well that’s just something else!!

This has to go down as one of my top 5 films of all time (so far!) – I could never bore of watching it and it still tickles me!!

Two days before his wedding with the wealthy Tracy Garner, Doug Billings travels to his bachelor party in Las Vegas with his best friends, the school teacher Phil Wenneck and the dentist Stu Price, and Tracy’s unconventional brother Alan Garner. Tracy’s father lends his convertible Mercedez Benz that is his pride and joy to Doug with many recommendations. The quartet rents the best suite in the Caesar’s Palace and they go to the roof to celebrate. Alan proposes a toast to Doug and they drink his booze. On the next morning, Phil, Stu and Alan have a hangover and they do not recall what they did last night; the room is upside down; Doug is missing; there is a baby in the wardrobe; a tiger in the bedroom; a chicken in the room; Stu has a missing tooth; and Doug is missing. The trio tries to track down last night to find what happened and sooner they discover that Stu married the stripper Jade (heather Graham) and Alan has spiked their booze with “Good Morning, Cinderella” in the beginning of their crazy night.imdb

If you’ve not seen this yet…..where on earth have you been??? Go gt it – You’ll LOVE it!!

Thursday’s Film/TV Treats – The Notebook

Posted by Emma ♥ - November 3rd, 2011

I know this isn’t one of your typical ‘wedding’ films BUT it’s the perfect love story so felt it still appropriate – any excuse to watch this film again!

Not only is it one of my favourite films (I did warn you before that my ‘Favourite Film’ list was pretty long) but it was also the first ‘proper’ date me and my husband went on back in 2004. I knew then, when he had his hankie out wiping his tears blowing his nose, that he was the man for me!! The whole cinema was in tears – and I tell ya something, it doesn’t get much easier the second time either (she says as she opens ANOTHER box of kleenex!)

The movie focuses on an old man reading a story to an old woman in a nursing home. The story he reads follows two young lovers named Allie Hamilton and Noah Calhoun, who meet one evening at a carnival. But they are separated by Allie’s parents who dissaprove of Noah’s unwealthy family, and move Allie away. After waiting for Noah to write her for several years, Allie meets and gets engaged to a handsome young soldier named Lon. Allie, then, with her love for Noah still alive, stops by Noah’s 200-year-old home that he restored for her, “to see if he’s okay”. It is evident that they still have feelings for each other, and Allie has to choose between her fiancé and her first love. (imdb)

A little teaser for you….

If you’ve not seen this yet then you MUST – it’s just beautiful!

Hope you all have a lovely day and see you tomorrow!

Thursday’s Film/TV Treat – The Wedding Planner

Posted by Emma ♥ - October 20th, 2011

Aaaaaaaaaah – I ♥ this film!! I remember watching this and thinking then that I HAD to be a Wedding Planner -  there was no other job for me after that! The romance and the fun exciting tasks (and grooms that looked like Matthew McConaughey of course) but having planned my own wedding I realised it might not be as glamorous as I first thought and although I loved it, I wasn’t too sure I could do it again (and again!). Wedding Planners need the patience of a saint and really are worth their weight in gold and to be fair, most probably don’t receive as much respect as they deserve. Saying that, the satisfaction you must get when you see all your hard work and sleepless nights come together as your couple celebrate one of the happiest days of their lives must make it all worthwhile! Anyway, back to the film….

Mary Fiore is the wedding planner. She’s ambitious, hard-working, extremely organized, and she knows exactly what to do and say to make any wedding a spectacular event. Bt when Mary falls (literally) for a handsome doctor her busy yet uncomplicated life is turned upside down – he’s the groom in the biggest wedding of her career! Will she help him walk down the aisle with his internet tycoon girlfriend, or will Mary finally get to be the bride herself? When it comes to love, you can never plan what’s going to happen.

Here’s a little teaser for you….

If you’ve not seen it yet……. where have you been??? This is a MUST see to get you in the ‘wedding’ spirit!

Thursday’s Film/TV Treats – My Big Fat Greek Wedding

Posted by Emma ♥ - October 13th, 2011

I remember going to see this at the cinema when it came out and the reason I remember it so well isn’t just because it’s a great film but because it was the first time I had been to the pictures and seen an audience laugh out loud at a show – and I mean LAUGH!! Not just a couple of people but EVERYONE! It left me with such high expectations of watching comedy’s at the cinema after that but it was a long time before I experienced it again and you’ll find out the film that did it in a couple of weeks! Anyways, back to today’s film….

Toula Portokalos is 30, Greek, and works in her family’s restaurant, Dancing Zorba’s, in Chicago. All her father Gus wants is for her to get married to a nice Greek boy but Toula wants more in life. Her mother convinces Gus to let her take some computer classes at college (making him think it’s his idea). With those classes under her belt, she then takes over her aunt’s travel agency (again making her father think it’s his idea). She meets Ian Miller, a high school English teacher and dreamboat she had made a fool of herself over at the restaurant! They date in secret for a while before her family finds out. Her father is livid over her dating a non-Greek. He has to learn to accept Ian, Ian has to learn to accept Toula’s huge family, and Toula, well , she has to learn to accept herself!

Here’s a little teaser for you….

I want to watch it again already!! Still as funny as the first time! If you’ve not seen this yet then make sure you do – and watch out for the granny and the sprinklers!! That still tickles me!

Thursday’s Film/TV Treats – My Best Friends Wedding

Posted by Emma ♥ - October 6th, 2011

A woman realizes that friends can be lovers, but now has to convince the friend in question in this romantic comedy. Michael O’Neal (Dermot Mulroney) and Julianne Potter (Julia Roberts) were romantically involved in college, and after breaking up, they have managed to remain close friends. For years, Julianne and Michael have had a pledge that if both were single when they turned 28, they would get married. Shortly before her 28th birthday, Julianne is lamenting the sad state of her love life when she gets a call from Michael, who announces that he has important news. Julianne is convinced that Michael is going to ask her to marry him, and she is gutted when he announces that he’s engaged to Kimmy Wallace (Cameron Diaz). Kimmy seems like the perfect woman for Michael. She’s sweet, pretty, bright, and adores Michael, and her wealthy family is just as fond of him as she is. But now that Julianne has realized how much she loves Michael, she’s not about to give him up without a fight — and isn’t afraid to fight dirty. Julianne’s uneasy ally in the battle for Michael’s affections is her friend and editor George Downes (Rupert Everett), a cheerfully out-of-the-closet homosexual who is not prepared when Julianne asks him to pose as her boyfriend

This is fab – love love love it!! Full of giggles and a perfect film to pop on while your sitting with your girlies with pizza and a couple of drinks. If you haven’t see it yet then you MUST!!! Here is a clip of one of my favourite parts in the film just as a teaser….

Enjoy the rest of your day and see you tomorrow morning!

Thursday’s Film/TV Treats – Confetti

Posted by Emma ♥ - September 29th, 2011

I’ve been looking forward to this week for ages as it meant I could watch Confetti again! I haven’t seen it since I got the DVD, which must have been in 2007(ish?) but I must admit to running a little behind time this week! It’s been very busy so far at MWD and I have only just got the chance to sit and watch it now! So as not to delay the post any longer, I am providing you with a synopsis of the film below and I am going to come back in precisely 100 mins to update the post with my thoughts!…

Confetti is the UK’s most prestigious wedding magazine, and publisher Antoni (played by Jimmy Carr) and editor Vivien  have made a career out of documenting the cutting edge in nuptial ceremonies. Antoni and Vivien have decided to stage a contest to find the most original wedding concepts in Britain; the Confetti staff will narrow the field down to three candidates, help the couples stage their weddings, and treat the grand prize winner to a major photo spread in the magazine as well as a new home worth 500,000 pounds. Before long, Antoni and Vivien announce the finalists: Josef and Isabelle, fitness enthusiasts who want a tennis-themed wedding; Matt and Sam, whose ceremony will be inspired by Hollywood movie musicals; and Michael and Joanna, a pair of naturists who seldom wear clothes and want to be nude throughout the ceremony. Veteran wedding planners Archie Heron and Gregory Hough are hired to help each couple have a day they’ll always remember, though they may not look back on their work with fondness.

The quality of this trailer isn’t too good on my computer but I have been having a few issues with YouTube recently so it could just be me – apologies in advance if this does effect anyone else though!

I’ll be back!

***UPDATE***  I watched it and I loved it (again!). You know what, I am coming to realise that all you need to do is chuck in a big white dress, a cute guy (I have a real soft spot for Martin Freeman!) and some sweet words and I’m sold! I do think that Matt and Sam (Martin Freeman and Jessica Stevenson) are a very entertaining couple (LOVE their song lol!!) and what makes the film even better second time round is that I read on moviefone that all the dialogue was improvised by the film’s cast during the filming! Another film which is worthy of a watch peeps!

Thursday’s Film & TV Treats – Maid of Honor

Posted by Emma ♥ - September 25th, 2011

*I know this is a little late (OK, 3 days late!!) but I didn’t want you to miss out so here it is – sorry everyone for the delay!*

Today’s Film & TV Treat is Maid of Honor staring Patrick Dempsey and Michelle Monaghan who play Tom and Hannah.

Tom and Hannah have been friends for a long time! Tom is a successful bachelor while Hannah dreams of settling down but just hasn’t found the Mr Right yet.

When Hannah leaves for a six week business trip to Scotland, Tom is suprised to find how much he misses her and realises that he has feelings for her and makes the decision to propose to Hannah on her return. As with most rom coms, this doesn’t quite go to plan as Hannah announces that she met and got engaged to (they don’t waste any time eh!) a dashing Scotsman and will soon be leaving to start her new life overseas. To make matters worse, thinking that Tom will be thrilled for her, she asks him to be her Maid of Honor! Tom reluctantly agrees but with the aim to show her the extent of his feelings and to try and convince her to call off the wedding!

Will he succeed? You’ll have to watch to find out (and this one is DEFO worth a watch – even just to drool over Mr Dempsey!) but here’s a little taster for you in the meantime…..

Thursday’s Film/TV Treats – Muriel’s Wedding

Posted by Emma ♥ - September 15th, 2011

I looooooove these Thursday posts! Such a great excuse to watch all my old girly favourites again and I must say I had actually forgotten how good Muriels Wedding is! So good infact that I making the hubby watch it again with me later! So onto the film….

Muriel Heslop was 22 and lived in Porpoise Spit, Australia and was, how can I describe it…a little bit awkward! Her fashion sense left a lot to be desired and she wasn’t really having much luck on the work front either – she also loved Abba but see, I didn’t really think this was a bad thing (I am guilty of this!!) but others did. She didn’t have much confidence in herself but that wasn’t helped by her Dad putting her down all the time and her friends, well, they were something else! They ended up excluding Muriel from their little circle so she resorted to stealing to make her happy.

Don’t worry though! This is where the story takes a bit of a turn and Muriel meets another girl from High School, Rhonda, and the two of them move to Sydney together! Wanting a complete fresh start Muriel even changes her name (not much lol) to Mariel and looks to acheive true happiness with her main goal being to get married!

Look, I don’t want to spoil it all for any who haven’t had the chance to see it yet (you really must if you haven’t – Toni Collette is just brilliant!!) but I can’t let you go without a little taster a real treat for all you Abba fans too!!

Muchos love,

Emma @ Military Wedding Discounts xXx
