Back Soon!

Posted by Emma ♥ - April 10th, 2012

Just a quick message to let you know that I am going to be away from the office for the next few days due to having to go into hospital for a minor operation. I won’t have access to my email on Tuesday or Wednesday but I should hopefully get to them from Thursday so if you could allow a little extra time for a reply – anything urgent send through to enquiries@militaryweddingdiscounts.com where the lovely lil mini me will look after ya!

It’s been a funny few weeks here at MWD – I was struck with Glandular Fever back in March which was awful but I am feeling sooooooooo much better now.  HUGE apologies for the lack of posts this last few weeks but normal service will resume next week – have got so much to fill you in on!

Muchos Love,

Burns Night!

Posted by Emma ♥ - January 25th, 2012

I couldn’t let this day go by without any recognition and when Anna from The Scotland Shop emailed offering to help with it I just couldn’t say no!!

So here’s a fab post for all fellow Scots and some great ideas for your Burns Night parties – all courtesy of The Scotland Shop..

It’s Burns Night – What To Wear..

You are attending your first ever Burns Night then it can be a bit daunting as you wonder what on earth to wear. Or maybe you have been to a million Burn’s Suppers and you want to do something extra special this year. If you are organising your own event how do you dress the Burn’s Night table? Whatever the case then we have lots of ideas to help you. To get a bit more background on Robert Burns and the history behind this famous Scottish celebration read our 25th January post.

So what to wear? If you have your own tartan then it is traditional to wear your family or clan tartan. If you are unsure about which tartan to wear then our tartan finder will help you. How much tartan is up to you. More formal events may require Kilts and Prince Charlie Jackets or Tartan Trews and Sashes for the ladies but normally a touch of tartan is enough to show your allegiance. We can make most items to order in your tartan but if you can’t see yours on the list let us know and we can probably source it for you.

And if you don’t have your own tartan? Then just pick one you love! Use our tartan finder to search by colour or if you want to wear a generic tartan not attached to any particular clan then try the range of Pride of Scotland tartans or the Stewart Royal, Scottish National, Scotland Forever, National Millennium and Black Watch tartans can be worn by anyone.

Tartan for the Burns Night Table

Add a simple and cost effective Scottish flavour with our tartan paper napkins or go the whole hog with a tartan tablecloth or runner and matching napkins. We have just added the Stewart Dress Modern to our range and it is so pretty. Perfect to combine with any existing white linen you might have too! If you like doing your own table decorations there is matching polyester tartan ribbon to go with the Flower of Scotland paper napkins. The hosts can have bow ties, cummerbunds and brooches for the ladies to match. Okay getting carried away now. If you need some inspiration call us as we are always happy to help and have lots of experience in decorating venues small and large. And don’t forget to put the date of your event on your order to help us to make sure you receive your parcel from Scotland in plenty of time.

Thank you so much once again to Anna for these fabulous posts and for further information on each of these check out…
