Formal Elegance Bridal Boutique in Cannock is selling an unusual calendar to raise funds for the Royal Marines Charitable Trust, helping Marines and their families when they are injured on active service.

The Royal Marine Wives and Girlfriends Calendar features tasteful pip-up style photos of the partners of serving Marines brightening up each month. The women originally planned to send the photos to their partners out in Afghanistan, but the idea grew into a calendar to raise money for the Regiment’s charity.

Boutique owner, Jane Heggie said: “A close member of my family is a serving Royal Marine so this charity is very close to my heart. The calendar has some lovely pictures of beautiful women and I hope local people will pop in to buy it and raise money for this great cause.”

“We’ve already had a lot of interest in the calendar and I’m hoping the people of Cannock Chase will help us help out servicemen who risk their lives for us. We had a lot of support for our event for Help For Heroes earlier in the year so I hope this will be equally successful. It’s a great calendar for a good cause”

Military Wedding Discount Launches across the UK and USA

Military Wedding Discounts is a great new website that has been designed to help members of the armed forces in both the UK and the USA save money when planning their wedding.

Emma and Terri decided to set up Military Wedding Discounts in order to help troops save money on their big day and to also help raise money for two charities Help 4 Heroes based in the UK and Operation Gratitude based in the USA.

All categories are covered from dresses and suits to catering and cake and from stag and hen do ideas to photographers and jewellery.  The website offers suppliers both in the UK and USA who are offering special rates to the military personal and 50% of all advertising fees are donated to the charities.

Emma Said: ‘supporting a military charity is something we both wanted to do for a long time and have combined it with our love of weddings. We are also looking into organising fundraising events of our own to help raise more money for both the UK charity Help4Heroes and USA charity Operation Gratitude’

There is also a section on ‘Real Military Weddings’ where brides and grooms or photographers can submit their wedding to be featured on the website. When the founders of Help for Heroes (Bryn and Emma Parry) set out they intended to raise £10K by doing a bike ride back in July 2007. A few days later they went to Headley court and decided to help raise £500K and then, after a trip to Selly Oak and meeting some ‘extraordinary blokes’ they realized that their lives had changed forever and raised the target to £5m.

Help for Heroes was launched on 1st October 2007 and now,  just over 3 years later, Help for Heroes has reached the £100 Million mark!!! Every single penny that has been raised has gone to help our brave men and woman who have been wounded while on duty.
